Lady in love!

She was pretty excited at the prospect of travelling across the 1900 odd kilometres.

Its not like she had never been there, but this time, it was different! She was a different person now! Completely transformed. She had that spring in her step, that dazzling smile and those radiant eyes that no beauty treatment can bring!

She would be on her way in a few minutes and she couldn't help but imagine the amazing time she will have once she reaches there! She was already imagining the hug she will get and the smile she would see on his face the moment he spotted her! His embrace was where she longed to be. She never wanted to let go!

Its has been just about ten sundays since they had first met. It seemed like many lifetimes had elapsed! She could just sit and look into those honest ever smiling eyes for hours at end listening to him recite tales from the twenty eight years of his life, he always had so much to speak and he could make her laugh till her sides ached!

His dreams were now her dreams, as for hers, they could wait. She had worked hard to be what she was today, but would give it all up, just to be with him.

That trip was immensely fulfilling. She came back with her heart full of the sweetest memories! On the night before she flew back, she stayed up...sat beside him and simply looked at him sleep. He was innocence personified, almost childlike as he slept. In her heart of hearts, she somehow knew it will not last...his world was totally different from hers. Almost everyone who knew him wrote it off. But she believed in him. She hoped he would never let her go. He would always be there, right beside her, holding her hand and gently guiding her. Cracking silly jokes and laughing with her. Wiping away those tears when she cried, holding her close whenever she was tired.

She hoped.

She went to bed. Lay awake with her head on his shoulder, a palm on his chest...feeling that steady heart beat...praying that time would stand still...hoping that he would awaken and tell her that in his arms was where she belonged.

Mother.....

Well I am a reporter in a news channel. We are often sent on specific assignments to cover certain events which sometimes turn out to be enlightening sometimes dissapointing and sometimes leave a deep impact on us. Well the only assignment which had my name against it today was 'Foundation stone unveiling ceremony' of the 'Vivanta', our very own Taj at Khanapara, Guwahati, by our CM, alongwith Ratan Tata and a host of other dignitaries. After having covered the event, I came back to office and sat in front of a machine with the sole intention of playing 'Farmville' on facebook. But that was not to be as I had hardly logged in that Parag Da, our Political Editor asked me to take a camera and rush to the Assam Enginering College where Ratan Tata was scheduled to attend another function. I admire Parag Da for his efficiency, wealth of knowledge and managing skills. He asked me to reach the Jalukbari Campus within 20 minutes...Ahem...20 minutes! He expe...

Throwback | Sept 2013 | Something on Superstition | Opinion

I do not believe that a bill or a law or an act can bring abt a major change. India's recent history bears testimony to this unfortunate fact.  Can they guarantee that there will be no incidents of witch hunting and other such crimes after such a bill comes into force? Nobody can say for sure, right? Have they been able to implement in all totality all the bills that have been passed? Superstitious beliefs are handed down generations. They are a part of our tradition. No law, no fear of punishment can guarantee that the people will stop practising superstitions. How many of us drive on without a thought even if a black cat crosses our path? The only solution, as many would agree, is to bring about awareness. Crimes due to superstition are prevalant only among the downtrodden. The standard of living has to be raised. Instead of trying to put into force some new law, right to education must be taken seriously. Not just crimes due to superstition, most ills in the society ...
